President's Report

This year is the 30th anniversary of the First Arkansas Chapter!  We are excited about the continuing success of our chapter.

October brought some changes to APICS and I want to take a few minutes to explain the information on these changes. First of all, your APICS First Arkansas Chapter is incorporated as a Not for Profit 501(3)(6) and is a separate entity from APICS Corporate Headquarters in Chicago. We have an arm’s length contractual relationship with APICS Corporate as a Channel Partner. Most Chapters in North America have this same type structure. APICS affiliates not in North America are mostly For Profit entities that partner with APICS.

APICS has announced it has formed ASCM, The Association for Supply Chain Management. This will be sort of like a parent organization to APICS, however APICS will be just one of many brands that are part of the ASCM portfolio. The following is what ASCM (APICS) Corporate has announced.

ASCM is needed because Supply Chain landscape is changing at a fast pace. ASCM has three pillars:

  • Learning and Development (APICS Brand)
    • Certification and courses will still be APICS brand certifications.
    • Principles course will be ASCM courses on line or chapter led classes.
  • Corporate Transformation
    • Membership types and cost will remain the same but will be with ASCM. You should have received new membership cards in the past few weeks.
      • You will remain a member of the APICS First Arkansas chapter.
    • Making and Impact.
      • ASCM has relationships with a network of global alliances and partnerships like Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), the Demand Driven Institute (DDI), PwC, Deloitte, Accenture, CFLP (Purchasing in China). ASCM will partner with these and other partners to add other “brands” to the ASCM portfolio.
      • ASCM stated that APICS has equity with individuals and ASCM will expand this equity with companies.

APICS Chapters will continue to be “APICS Chapters.”  The APICS.org website has transitioned into ASCM.org. The APICS First Arkansas Chapter’s website will continue to be apics-fark.org.

Thank you for being part of the APICS First Arkansas Chapter. Please let me know if you have questions or need something from the Chapter.

Sue German, CSCP, CLTD, CFPIM, CIRM, SPHR, C.P.M.  President, APICS First Arkansas Chapter
